Our Staff

Rev Gavin Millard (Rector)
Gavin is the Rector of Christ Church Somerset West. He is a graduate of George Whitefield College, and ran his own church in Gauteng for 3 years before coming to Cape Town as the Assistant Minister at Christ Church, and then later as Rector. Gavin is married to Ruth-Ann and they have three children, Stephen, Diana and Grace.

Gavin's interests include art and oil painting (a throwback from his architecture days before entering the ministry full time), fishing, golf and surfing.

Brian McMillan (Minister)

Brian graduated from George Whitefield College at the end of 2015 and joined the staff team at Christ Church Somerset West at the beginning of 2016. Brian is married to Lauren.

David Hill (Rector at Christ Church Waterkloof)

David is the Rector at Christ Church Waterkloof in Somerset West, a recent church plant. He is married to Adele and they have three children – Hannah, Nathan and Sarah. He is a lifelong ‘Sharks’ supporter (born in Durbs!). Coming from a Mechanical Engineering background, he ended up studying theology at George Whitefield College, and graduated in 2009.

As a kid he dreamed of being a circus clown and is a total adrenalin junkie. His passion though is telling people about his Heavenly King Jesus.

Rev Peter Makapela (Rector at Christ Church, Strand)

Peter grew up in the Eastern Cape, and came to Cape Town where he became a Christian. After becoming involved at Mandela Park Community Church in Khayelitsha, he was encouraged to go into full time ministry, and graduated from George Whitefield College in 2003. He received a call from Christ Church to plant a church in the Nomzamo township in Somerset West, and Christ Church Strand is now a fully established church with a day care centre.

Peter is married to Mpumi and they have two daughters. Peter is a keen evangelist and is always looking for opportunities to share the gospel.

Les Markham (Administrator)

Les is the friendly voice you hear when you phone the church - always willing to help, and keeping the church (and the rest of the staff team) organised! She is also involved in one-to-one meetings with ladies, keeping in contact with our various missionaries, and making sure the photocopy machine is always running.

Les grew up in and around Cape Town, spent some time in Jo'burg and Durban, but eventually found herself back in Stellenbosch and more recently Somerset West. She has two grown up daughters.

Christo Longland (Afrikaans minister)
