LET THERE BE JAZZ!
On Saturday evening, 22 November, Joie de Vivre (translated the joy of living) - our very own jazz trio made up of Haydon Harvey, Bruce Morgan, and Jonathan Griffiths - put on a very special jazz concert at church. The trio call themselves Joie de Vivre because it expresses their love for playing music, and also their delight at the unexpected ways they experience God’s blessings in their lives. They met as members of our Sunday music teams, and have been playing together for three years now, growing in their love and appreciation for jazz and in the joy and friendship that music provides.
Haydon is a classically trained, and jazz influenced, pianist and composer; Bruce has been a bassist in a number of rock and blues groups over the years; and Jonathan has been playing jazz drums since high school. Together, they make incredible music!
Over the course of two sets of eight music pieces each, we were treated to the likes of George Gershwin, Miles Davis, Henry Mancini, Dean Martin, Sting, and several others…including a composition by Haydon Harvey himself!
It was an incredible evening for all who attended. Joie de Vivre have generously donated all proceeds from the ticket sales to the gospel ministry of our church.
