OUT OF DEATH COMES LIFE

The Gospel declares: "Out of death comes life!" This is vividly demonstrated in the raising of Jairus' daughter from the dead in Mark chapter 5. When Jesus arrives at Jairus’ house, he says the most crazy, insensitive thing anyone could say to a family mourning the death of a loved one: “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep”. Everyone knows the girl is dead and he gets ridiculed.

So why does Jesus say that she is just asleep? The answer comes in what he does next! He walks up to her bed, takes her by the hand and says: “Talitha koum!” which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Then we are told: "Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around". Ridicule quickly turns to astonishment. The point is this: If Jesus has you by the hand, then your death is just like sleep! The Christians hope is not "pie in the sky, when you die" but bodily resurrection to eternal life.

Yours in Christ
