Christ Church is a family Church where Christians of all ages and
backgrounds can gather in
fellowship for teaching from the Bible. We are a member
of the wider family of the Church of England in Southern Africa (CESA). We identify with the protestant, reformed and evangelical faith handed down from the
reformation, and express that faith through our Anglican heritage. We hold to :
Our Staff Team Gavin is the Rector of Christ Church Somerset West. He is a graduate of George Whitefield College, and ran his own church in Gauteng for 3 years before coming to Cape Town as the Assistant Minister at Christ Church, and then later as Rector. Gavin is married to Ruth-Ann and they have three children varying in age from 4 to 10. Gavin's
interests include art and oil painting (a throwback from his
architecture days before entering the ministry full time), fishing, golf and surfing. ![]() Donovan is the Assistant Minister at Christ Church. Coming from a Graphic Design and cartooning background, he ended up studying theology at George Whitefield College, and graduated in 2001. He served as a Youth Minister at Emmanuel Church in Durbanville for 5 years before coming to Christ Church as Assistant Minister. Donovan is married to Dallas and they have two girls aged 1 and 4 years respectively. His interests include cartooning, reading, adventure games and superhero movies. David is the youth pastor at Christ Church in Somerset West. He is married to Adele and they have two children – Hannah and Nathan. He is a lifelong ‘Sharks’ supporter (born in Durbs!). Coming from a Mechanical Engineering background, he ended up studying theology at George Whitefield College, and graduated in 2009. As a kid he dreamed of being a circus clown and is a total adrenalin junkie. His passion though is telling people about his Heavenly King Jesus. ![]() Adele Hill (Children's Worker) Adele is the Children's Worker at Christ Church. She is married to David and they have two children – Hannah and Nathan.. She studied Occupational Therapy, and has run the children's work at Christ Church for many years in a part-time capacity. After a few years in the workplace she was able to come onto the staff full time, dedicated to the children's ministry. Peter grew up in the Eastern Cape, and came to Cape Town where he became a Christian. After becoming involved at Mandela Park Community Church in Khayelitsha, he was encouraged to go into full time ministry, and graduated from George Whitefield College in 2003. After serving in ministry in the townships, he received a call from Christ Church to plant a church in the Nomzamo township in Somerset West. Peter is married to Mpumi and they have two daughters under the age of 4. Peter is a keen evangelist and is always looking for opportunities to share the gospel. Katleho Meslane (Children's Worker at Somlandela Bible Church) Katleho is a "Cape Town boy" (as he puts it). He was born in Gugulethu but lived most of his life in Khayelitsha where he became a Christian. He studied at George Whitefield College and the Bible Institute in Kalk Bay, where he was trained for children's ministry. He has been at Somlandela Bible church since the beginning of 2011, helping Peter with the work there. His interests include kids and any sport he is able to play himself. Les is the friendly voice you hear when you phone the church - always willing to help, and keeping the church (and the rest of the staff team) organised! She is also involved in one-to-one meetings with ladies, keeping in contact with our various missionaries, and making sure the photocopy machine is always running. Les grew up in and around Cape Town, spent some time in Jo'burg and Durban, but eventually found herself back in Stellenbosch and more recently Somerset West. She has two grown up daughters |
