RAIN

From devastating fires to a deluge of rain that finally put out the fires… and filled our dams… to more rain that is expected for the weekend! Along with the heavy rains comes disaster to families adversely affected by flooding. I was thinking about how we reconcile the good and the bad news of rain in our minds as Christians.

We are always grateful for the provision of rain. It is a sign of God's care for his creation. However, it is also a reminder that we live in a fallen, broken world where good news for some can mean bad news for others - that this a world in need of redemption. As Paul says in Romans 8:19-20, "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.” So, while we rejoice in God’s provision of rain, we are also required to exercise hope for our redemption and indeed the whole of creation.

Yours in Christ

Gavin
